Frequently Asked Questions

Does Gryz send my data to the cloud?
No. Gryz runs entirely on your iPhone. Your notes, calendar, contacts, and reminders never leave the device. This is not a policy promise — it is architectural. The AI model runs locally, the index is stored in encrypted local storage, and no network call is ever made for inference or context retrieval. You can verify this with Charles Proxy or iOS network monitor during normal use.
What Apple data does Gryz index?
Gryz indexes your iCloud Drive files from a dedicated "Gryz" folder (.txt, .md, .rtf files), Calendar events (past 90 days + next 90 days), Reminders (all lists, all states), and Contacts (names, emails, phone numbers, company, notes fields). All indexing happens on-device using Apple's native frameworks like EventKit and Contacts.framework.
Do I need an account?
No. Gryz requires zero account creation — no email, no password, no server signup. Face ID is your only credential. The app is fully functional without any login or registration. Pro and Pro Plus subscriptions are handled through Apple StoreKit with your Apple ID; we never see or store your identity.
Which iPhones are supported?
Gryz requires iPhone 15 or newer (A17 chip or later). This is the minimum hardware needed to run local AI inference with acceptable performance (under 2 seconds to first token). The app uses Metal GPU acceleration and the Neural Engine, which require the 3nm A17 architecture. Older devices are blocked at the App Store level and via runtime check.
How is Gryz different from ChatGPT on iPhone?
ChatGPT and other cloud assistants send your queries and context to remote servers for processing. Gryz never sends personal data off-device — the model runs on your phone, the index lives in local storage, and all reasoning happens locally. Additionally, Gryz indexes your Apple ecosystem data (notes, calendar, contacts, reminders) for context-aware answers, which cloud assistants cannot do without uploading that data first.
What about backups?
Your encrypted database can sync to iCloud as an encrypted blob. The data is AES-GCM encrypted on-device before upload — Apple cannot read it. When you restore on a new device, Face ID unlocks the encryption key from the Secure Enclave, and everything decrypts locally. The backup contains only the encrypted index; your raw Apple data remains in its original iCloud locations.
Is there a free version?
Yes. Gryz is free to download and use. The free tier includes the full on-device model, all Apple data source indexing, voice input and output, weather context, and 5 web search queries per day. Pro ($3.99/month or $29.99/year) adds unlimited web search, Gryz Notes editor, custom assistant name, and iCloud sync. Pro Plus ($7.99/month or $59.99/year) adds external integrations like Gmail and Google Calendar.
What happens if I lose my phone?
If you have iCloud sync enabled (Pro tier), your encrypted index syncs to iCloud. Install Gryz on a new iPhone, authenticate with Face ID, and your complete index restores. Without sync, your index is lost — but your original data (notes, calendar, contacts) remains in iCloud and will re-index when you grant permissions again.
